Shropshire Youth Association are a charity dedicated to the support and development of children and young people in Shropshire and Telford and are the largest supplier and supporter of youth work in the county. They have recently been awarded government funding to replace their old existing building with a new permanent HQ. This will create a fit-for-purpose base which will allow them to continue their work and respond to the growing demand for high quality youth service provision in the county.
PSG have been appointed to represent the Shropshire Youth Association throughout the procurement of the new building. We have developed a design for the new building with energy efficiency principles at its heart. The timber frame structure utilises sustainable materials and allows the inclusion of lots of insulation. Very high levels of airtightness are required which will avoid uncontrolled heat loss through draughts and leaks in the fabric of walls, roof, floors and windows. Backed up with electric heat pumps and a very efficient ventilation system the finished building will provide a low-energy design that should be cheap to run and kind to the environment.
Shrewsbury builder R1 Construction Ltd has just been appointed as main contractor responsible for completing the detail design and progressing with construction of the new building.
