In June 2017 PSG were approached to carry out a high quality refurbishment of a 25 year old 5 bay demountable at The Community College, Bishop’s Castle to be used a South base for the Woodlands Schools for children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). Due to the needs of those using the building all materials needed to be robust and functional.
Inside the flooring was replaced throughout and the walls painted in a very light grey which gives a feeling of calmness throughout. The original interior doors were replaced for solid core Oak veneered doors for robustness and the IT benching and toilet cubicles were all salvaged and repurposed from other Shropshire Council sites. The heating and lighting was upgraded within the classrooms to air conditioning heating and cooling units in order for the temperature to be regulated which will help the children’s concentration and comfort levels.
The exterior of the demountable was overhauled by replacing the existing windows for uPVC double glazed units to improve thermal efficiency, aluminium doors to improve security but are also extremely robust and finally the dark brown cladding was brightened up with a light blue exterior paint. This facelift has made the demountable feel more inviting as you approach it as well as sitting nicely within the grounds of the school.
