Designated as a “Rural Hub”, the SpArC Leisure Centre provides valuable sports and leisure facilities to residents and schools in Bishops Castle and the wider rural area. The centre is well used and supported by the local community.
PSG have designed and are managing the refurbishment of the wet side changing rooms, currently being carried out by Blue Square Building Ltd, who are working closely with the Centre’s staff to ensure minimal disruption to the Centre’s other services and the Community College which occupies the same site.
This refurbishment was badly needed, as the general wear and tear that occurs over time in a high use environment was exacerbated by the failure of the pool’s air handling unit, leading to high levels of humidity and condensation damage to the fittings and fabric of both changing rooms, leaving them looking very worn and dilapidated.
As part of the project, the changing room walls will be lined with hygienic PVCu sheet cladding and the floors covered with non-slip vinyl flooring, all toilet cubicles and vanity units will be of water resistant SGL material.
These measures, combined with the new air handling unit which was recently installed in another project overseen by PSG, will prevent any future moisture related damage.
concealed cistern toilets and vanity units with inset basins along with new changing benches and coat hooks will provide a cleaner more contemporary look to the changing rooms.
New high-level radiators will replace the outdated and potentially dangerous floor level radiators. The local SpArC foundation have raised money for new lockers which will be located on poolside.
Once the project is complete, residents and school children from Bishops Castle and the surrounding areas will be met with a safe, clean and welcoming environment when using their local pool for years to come.
