Worthen Primary School building enhancements 2017

The federation of the three Shropshire Schools, Worthen CE Primary, St Mary’s CE Primary (Westbury) and Hope CE Primary, was agreed in May 2016.  On 21st December 2016 Shropshire Council Cabinet approved to proceed to the publication of closure proposals for Hope CE Primary School and St Mary’s CE Primary School Westbury, with a target date of 1 September 2017, consolidating provision on an expanded site at Worthen CE Primary School.  The necessary site and building enhancements are presented in this application.

The proposed building enhancements include provision of Early Years (EY) facility providing 24 places for children age 2 to 4 years, including bespoke toilets/nappy changing and outdoor play area, plus a secure entrance to jointly serve both the EY facility and the main school. The project also provides an additional mainstream classroom to accommodate 30 pupils with associated storage, an additional general purpose space, increased toilet provision and the essential new circulation required for safe and adequate movement to and from the new areas.

Other associated site enhancements include increased car parking provision with an extension to the existing onsite car park area at the front of the site.
