Gutters and drain maintenance

Property Services Group do all we can to help reduce unnecessary costs for all our customers, so we have put together tips to reduce the risk of water damage:

Week 1 – Clear gutters and down spouts regularly of vegetation and other debris to ensure good flow and avoid a build-up - which could cause costly blockages.

‘Regularly’ depends on the environment:

Few or not trees at all – Check and clear minimum of once a year

Moderate trees – Check and clear minimum of twice per year

Heavy trees – Check often and clean each time the gutter is filled with debris, this could be once or twice a week when leaves are falling.

We recommend thick rubber gloves are worn when maintaining rainwater goods

Week 2 – Clear gullies and slot drains in carparks and play grounds.

Gulleys should be cleaned out regularly and any silt and debris removed to ensure that water drains away freely. As with gutters, inspecting gulleys during or immediately after heavy rainfall can help to highlight problems.

Slot drains should be kept clear of leaves and silt, when cleaning try not to let any debris fall down the slots.
