Meole Brace Vanguard Building wins the West Midlands Net Zero Building Award 2022

On the 12th May 2022, the Meole Brace Vanguard Building won the West Midlands Net Zero Award 2022.

The building represents record-breaking levels of sustainability for Shropshire Council by delivering a future proofed education facility as a ‘first of a kind’ in achieving Net Zero operational carbon. This sustainable project was carefully designed and constructed with Net Zero credentials and evidences quantifiable biodiversity, community and local gains through minimising both capital and in use waste and carbon.

This is the UK’s first ever Passivhaus educational project constructed in masonry.

The following Property Services Group (PSG) team members delivered this project:

Peter Allen, Team Leader, was instrumental in embracing Shropshire Councils client emergency regarding achieving the Councils goal of zero net carbon for this project.

Harvey Gould, Senior Architectural Technologist, designed and took the building through to planning approval with Read Construction Holdings Ltd., then engaged to complete the onsite design and construction.

Luke Blakeway, Team Leader M&E oversaw the mechanical and electrical design with Ian Pengilly, Mechanical Surveyor and Nathan Davies, Senior Electrical Surveyor overseeing the project during construction process.

Lucy Fletcher, Senior Quantity Surveyor was responsible for overseeing the tender process, contract and finances with Scott Gerrard, Senior Clerk of Works checking the quality and build of the onsite construction.
