Originally built in 2000, St. John the Baptist CE Primary School, only had a very small kitchen that was never intended for the preparation and serving of fresh meals.  The school has expanded over the years and despite the best efforts of the kitchen staff it was clear that a larger kitchen was needed.  PSG were appointed to carry out the design and supervise the build.

The school is of a very modern and high quality design with a mix of pitched tile roofs, curved metal roofs, facing brick walls and timber cladding.  Although the extension required was only relatively small, it was difficult to develop a proposal that complimented the original building.  The final scheme involved the removal of the existing tile roof and replacement with a complicated twin-curve metal roof resting on specially made curved structural steelwork.

The end result has doubled the usable floor area of the kitchen and provided much needed working space.  Externally the appearance of the building has been maintained and it’s architectural integrity remains intact.
