Richard begain his career with the council in 1987 as a clerk of works, and five years later progressed to his current post of senior clerk of works. Richard has worked in the construction industry for over 44 years, starting his career as a carpenter and joiner, completing a five-year apprenticeship, and moving on to contracts manager before joining Shropshire Council.

During his time in the industry Richard has worked on a variety of projects, such as design and build, restoration, refurbishment, and traditional building projects ranging from small alterations/adaptations to large projects, such as a new academy school in excess of £28 million. He has also carried out the role of project manager on a number of projects, and is responsible for procuring the contractor’s frameworks for the council.
